What is the process for bringing my child to work with Lumos?
Step 1: Schedule a free phone consultation where you can tell me about your child, ask me any questions you have, and hear my recommendations.
Step 2: Schedule a student assessment for your child. This will be a 2-hour block of time where I give your child an assessment in either math or literacy to help me know what they need and give my recommendations for them moving forward.
Step 3: We will work on finding a good weekly time that I can see your child (Ex. Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4 pm). We will choose a start date and get started!
What curriculum is used?
For the Dyslexia Therapy track, we use the Take Flight curriculum developed by The Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders. They have a lab school where they have developed and adjusted their curriculum to best serve students using the five core components of effective reading instruction: Phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.
The Multisensory Math and Reading Comprehension & Written Expression tracks do not have one specific curriculum, but they use many of the same components as Take Flight. They will also be multisensory and build cumulatively on prior lessons. These will be tailored to each student depending on where they are.
When and where are sessions conducted?
Availability is on a first come, first served basis, but we provide both day-time sessions and after school sessions. Sessions are either conducted at my office or at the school of the student.
How much are sessions and how will I pay?
Each regular session is €85 and you are billed monthly in advance of your child’s upcoming sessions. If you know before being billed any sessions you are unable to make (due to travel, holidays, etc.), those will be removed from the calendar and you will not be charged.
Do you have experience with special needs other than dyslexia?
I do! Each child is unique with different struggles and talents, and it is my job to make sure our sessions are structured in a way that will be successful for them. I am committed to ensuring they learn what they need.
While dyslexia is certainly my specialty, I have been successful working with children who have dysgraphia, ADHD, autism, and oppositional defiance disorder (ODD).
How will I stay apprised of my child's progress?
For all my clients I send daily or weekly notes about what was worked on, any successful or difficult parts for the student, as well as any homework. That will always give you a quick look at what we do each day and keep you in the loop. You will always be kept up to date on your child's learning.
For more thorough information about your child’s progress, I provide comprehensive progress monitoring every three months. You are able to choose if you would like this to be in person, over Zoom, or in an email. This will include specific skills your child is showing progress in, where they are having trouble spots that need extra review, and what else you can do at home that will help your student grow. This also includes an assessment with your child every three months.
