Our Story
About Me
I'm Bri McClung, the owner and sole therapist of Lumos Learning Center. I have now been in education for almost 10 years and love getting to work with students to see their skills and confidence grow. This is a hard world to live in without strong math and literacy skills and I believe my job of teaching those skills is an important one.
Reading is expected in every class, at every grade level. Without strong literacy skills, every single class is incredibly frustrating. With strong literacy skills, you have the tools to thrive. Not only in school, but in life. You can make sure your rental contract is just, that you agree to the privacy policy on websites, and that you don't sign anything problematic. Literacy skills can smooth out someone's trajectory in such an impactful way. This is largely why I left classroom teaching to become a specialist; I have seen specialized intervention change lives and love seeing those skills develop in my students.
Born to American parents, my roots are in Thailand, where I lived for the first 18 years of my life, after which I moved to the United States. I grew up going to an international school and loved being surrounded by many different cultures. Back in the US, I attended Vanderbilt University and then taught secondary English in public schools for several years. I then completed my master's degree in Reading Education and have been working as a dyslexia therapist for the past 5 years.
My standing as a Certified Academic Language Therapist was the result of 2 years of classes and supervised practicum training, working primarily with dyslexic students. I also hold a certificate in multisensory math and have experience working with a myriad of kids with ADHD, autism, and oppositional defiance disorder (ODD). In my free time, I love snuggling my small furry dog, eating dark chocolate, and watching Great British Bakeoff. I love getting to know new students and look forward to learning more about you and your child!
Mission.
