What does your child need?

Dyslexia Therapy

  • For students who struggle to remember spelling and reading rules and find reading to be laborious. They are not reading at the same level as their peers. Students suited to this program do not need to have a dyslexia diagnosis.
  • This is a robust reading intervention program through which your child will progress. It is structured literacy taught systematically with built-in repetition that the dyslexic brain needs.
  • Think of it like physical therapy, but for the phonological part of the brain where students progress gradually with lots of repetition over time.
  • This program focuses on learning letters and sounds, accurate word reading, and spelling. Vocabulary, comprehension and fluency are all embedded for a complete literacy education.
  • This program utilizes the Take Flight curriculum developed by The Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. It is a comprehensive program that will take a student approximately 2 years to complete.
  • Open for students aged 4 and up.

Reading Comprehension & Written Expression

  • For students who can read words fluently but struggle to track ideas and compose their thoughts successfully.
  • These sessions will focus on reading fiction and non-fiction texts and guiding students to learn to focus while they read, equip them to take notes efficiently, and train them to accurately summarize.
  • As they progress, we will work on making inferences, building vocabulary, and understanding literary devices.
  • These sessions will additionally focus on written expression. The student will learn to write both fiction and non-fiction texts with clear wording, vivid language, and logical progression of thought.
  • Open for children aged 7 and up.

Multisensory Math

  • For students who are in need of a new approach to math and have struggled to keep up with their classes.
  • This program works to create the concepts of math in a way that is both physical and moveable. Whenever possible, students are tapping a number line, moving blocks around, or slicing Play-doh to create fractions and decimals.
  • Students will start from whatever they already know and we will build from there to ensure foundational concepts are strong before continuing on.
  • Open for children up to age 15.

Academic Coaching

  • For students who need assistance with school classes. This varies depending on the individual student and where they need assistance.
  • This can include homework management and study skills, studying together, and reteaching school concepts.
  • Open for children up to age 15.

Dyslexia Testing

  • I provide testing using the Test of Dyslexia. It is a comprehensive test that takes several hours to administer and consult over. After completing this, you will receive 23 sub-scores for your child as well as a graph showing their placement on the Dyslexia Diagnostic Index.
  • (All students seeking dyslexia therapy services will also complete a portion of the Test of Dyslexia subtests to guide me in my recommendations.)
  • This is available from age 5-adults.
  • Note: Only a licensed psychologist is qualified to formally diagnose dyslexia. The Test of Dyslexia is designed to identify your child’s specific strengths and weaknesses with regards to literacy and inform an intervention plan.
